Sekhukhune To Leave Polokwane After Chiefs Deal?

Sekhukhune United is likely to leave Polokwane after Kaizer Chiefs recently struck a deal to play three home games at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.

It appears an exodus is on the horizon with Marumo Gallants and Sekhukhune heading for an ugly divorce with the Polokwane municipality over hosting DStv Premiership games.

iDiski Times understands the two clubs have felt mistreated since the start of the season and the multi-million rand deal struck with Amakhosi has left a sour taste in their mouth.

Sources within the club suggest that there’s been no cooperation for marketing and strategic planning to grow their brands in the province while the finances involved have not made sense, as both look towards relocating to North West province for the remainder of the season.

Gallants were strongly mooted for a switch to the Free State as speculation grew over reviving the Bloemfontein Celtic brand, but those talks were quickly quashed by Chairman Abram Sello.

However, with Babina Noko now taking a similar stance to Gallants, there could end up only being three top-flight games in Polokwane for the second half of the current campaign.

Sekhukhune moved to the Peter Mokaba Stadium in the 2022/23 season after featuring at Ellis Park for their home games in their debut top-flight campaign.

The club, whose offices and training ground are based in Gauteng, cited the traveling costs and exorbitant demands for facilities that didn’t make financial sense, to them, as the reasons for playing their home games outside of Polokwane.
