Nomvethe Faces An Uncertain Future with AmaZulu

Siyabonga Nomvethe is facing a bleak future with AmaZulu as his contract will expire at the end of this month of June.

According to iDiski Times sources, Bhele was shown the exit door by the club, but the club’s president Sandile Zungu said that is not the case and it is just that his contract will expire this month.

However, he said they are yet to discuss whether they will keep him beyond this season.

Bhele was appointed in December 2020 as part of Benni McCarthy’s technical team, with the now Manchester United Forwards coach helping Usuthu finish second in the DStv Premiership table in the 2020/21 season.

However, with McCarthy getting the chop in March last year, Bhele stayed on as assistant as Usuthu appointed Brandon Truter initially in the caretaker role until the end of the 2021/22 season.

Truter was then handed the Usuthu job at the beginning of this past season, but he was sacked in October. Then Usuthu appointed Romain Folz, but Bhele was demoted to the DStv Diski Challenge team, with Ayanda Dlamini taking over his position of assistant.

With Folz being removed from the head coaching role in April, Dlamini took over as the caretaker and Siboniso Vilakazi as his assistant.

Bhele was redeployed to take over the Diski team until the end of the season to work with Reneilwe Letsholonyane.

“Bhele, his term of office is ending at the end of June,” said Zungu to the iDiski Times.

“But it is someone we would like to continue working with. But his current contract ends at the end of June. But it doesn’t mean that we will not utilise him, we may still need him.”

Bhele is one of the coaches that Zungu is considering to be assistants of newly appointed Franco Pablo Martin, who was appointed on Tuesday night.

“As we have appointed the coach, we will probably present CVs of coaches that we have worked with before because we want someone who is Usuthu on the bench,” said Zungu.

“We have Vilakazi, Ronnie Moroka, Letsholonyane, Ayanda Dlamini, Andile Cele, Ayanda Dlamini, who can sit on the bench, it’s not only Nomvethe.

“But we have got lots of respect for Nomvethe. But it is just that when the contract ends we have to decide – extending it or terminating it or entering into fresh discussions.

“So none of these guys I can say we don’t need, it is just a matter of timing. I just want to build a network of these coaches and keep them in the ecosystem and work with them from time to time.

“We have been working with Nomvethe since 2020. We may bring him in as an assistant, we may decide to give someone else a chance, we may bring someone completely new.”
