Durban City head coach Khalil Ben Youssef has given his early assessment of the squad he has inherited as preparations continue for the new season.
The Tunisian mentor was appointed during the off-season, replacing Pitso Dladla at the helm of the KwaZulu-Natal club.

Ben Youssef was on the touchline over the weekend when Durban City featured in the KZN Premier’s Cup. His side drew 1-1 with Richards Bay before falling 5-4 short in the penalty shootout.
The former Chiefs assistant believes the competition served as a valuable test ahead of Durban City’s league opener against Sekhukhune United next Saturday.
Although pleased with the progress made during pre-season, Ben Youssef acknowledged that the squad still needs strengthening, particularly as the club prepares to balance domestic league commitments with other competitions this season.
“It was a good challenge for us to see where we are before next week, when we start the game in the league against Sekhukhune,” said Ben Youssef.
“I think, about the team, we are happy, but still, we need at least two or three players to help the team offensively, that we will be more sure about the team.
“Because, like I said this season we are playing a lot of competitions, we are playing five competitions, and we need more players from the squad for the rotation.”
