The President of the South African Football Association, Dr. Danny Jordaan says the decision on Hugo Broos successor will be taken next Saturday.
Broos, together with Jordaan in the presence of Chief Executive Officer Lydia Monyepao and Technical Director Molefi Ntseki announced the end of the five-year tenure of Broos at SAFA House on Friday afternoon.
After weeks of speculation around his future, in which Broos initially stated he’s retired to Belgian media, SAFA released a statement denying his statements.
Broos was then offered a new contract until the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which he rejected, leading to his exit on 31 July – the final day of his initial five-year deal signed in 2021.
His technical team of Kopano Melesi, Grant Johnson and Sinesipho Mali have all announced their departures and Pitso Mosimane has emerged as the leading candidate to become the new leader of Bafana.
“We… next week Saturday, we’re having an NEC meeting – and that is where the decision will be taken, that will be next Saturday,” Jordaan said about the appointment of the next head coach.
Meanwhile, Broos opted not involve himself in the process, despite previously endorsing Helman Mkhalele as his preferred candidate in a succession plan after his retirement.
“My apologies but I will not answer that question, I was coach here and that’s it – what happens after me? I think [Jordaan] is the man who has to decide it,” Broos said.
“I think he knows, he knows very well what he needs, or the qualities needed for the next coach.”
