Rulani Mokwena’s Pyramids FC thumped Kenyan champions Gor Mahia 5-1 to advance into the second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League with a 7-1 aggregate win.
Pyramids made a huge step towards the second round of the CAF Champions League preliminaries after a convincing 2-0 win away at Gor Mahia last weekend.
The 2024/25 CAFCL winners had a dream start at Nyoyo National Stadium, as they took the lead inside the fifth minute before Mokwena’s side doubled the lead just before the half-time whistle via Mahmoud Saber for the win on the road.
On Sunday, at the Air Defense Stadium, the hosts did not waste much time by taking the lead in the 28th minute though Walid El Karti.
Nasser Maher made it 2-0 in the 38th minute with Youssef Obama adding the third on the stroke of halftime.
David Okoth Odhiambo pulled one back for the visitors after the resumption of the second half, but it was not to be as the Egyptians advanced.
The match was put beyond reasonable doubt as the Egyptians scored two more with a brace from Mostafa Ziko in the 90th and 94th minute for the dominant victory.
Pyramids will now meet Sudanese outfit El Merriekh Bentiu in the CAF Champions League’s second preliminary round.
