Al Ahly President Defends Pitso

Al Ahly’s president Mahmoud El-Khatib has come out and defended coach Pitso Mosimane over exaggerated and illogical attacks in the media.

The former Al Ahly player is a huge fan of the South African coach and was the driving force behind getting him to the Club of the Century.

Mosimane, though, has received criticism throughout his spell despite lifting four trophies – including back-to-back CAF Champions League titles – and claiming a medal at the FIFA Club World Cup.

‘Bibo’ has now insisted that Mosimane’s criticism is not fair and stood up for his coach on national television.

“The attacks on Mosimane are exaggerated and illogical,” he told On-Time Sports.

“They are a group that only mentions mistakes and negatives about Mosimane. Their goal is to destabilise Al Ahly and there must be fairness.”

The president of the Red Devils also gave some insights as to why he opted for Mosimane after Rene Weiler had left the club.

“When I looked at Mosimane’s history, he caught my eye based on his achievements and his experience on the continent,” he added.

“During Al Ahly’s trip to South African I felt that Mosimane loves Al Ahly and is satisfied with his leadership of the team at the present time.”

Al Ahly started the new Egyptian Premier League with five wins from five matches and will return to action on Thursday when they will face unbeaten Smouha.
