Al Ahly president Mahmoud El-Khatib has revealed the truth about recent contract talks between Pitso Mosimane’s camp and the Egyptian giants.
Both sides had reached a stalemate and at some point and it was reported that the South African could even leave the club.
Other reports in Egyptian media claimed that Mosimane was asking for an increase, which the club had since denied already.
However, ‘Captain Bibo’ as he’s affectionally known, has now also explained his side of the talks once more, insisting Mosimane does indeed deserve an increase for his achievements.
“Mosimane didn’t ask for a salary increase, he wanted to feel safe about his position, that’s why we increased the release clause from three to six months,” he told On-Time Sports, as cited by KingFut.
“With elections starting soon, we preferred to postpone the contract extension talks, but the coach didn’t ask for a salary change.
“However, he does deserve an increase after his achievements with the club.”
El-Khatib has been Al Ahly president since 2017 and will stand for re-election in the upcoming elections on 25 and 26 November.
