Ghana Already Focussing On WC Play-Offs

While everyone in South Africa is waiting on FIFA’s ruling on the protest from the South African Football Association over the Ghana vs Bafana Bafana match, the Black Stars are already focussing on their potential 2022 World Cup play-off.

South Africa and SAFA are sitting on hot coals regarding the protest against Senegalese match official Maguette Ndiaye, as FIFA have been silent on the case.

SAFA has accused the referee of match-fixing, match manipulation and corruption, which resulted in an aggressive response from the Ghanaian Football Association, who requested FIFA to dismiss the case and fine SAFA.

Meanwhile, Bernard Lippert, Technical Director of the Ghana FA, is setting his sights on the potential play-offs for the Black Stars – where they could potentially face Senegal, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria or Nigeria.

“The last match against South Africa has given me a lot of hope,” he told Citi Sports as cited by Ghanasoccernet.

“We all know we have good players, but I only saw the teamwork, togetherness and passion in the last game.

“If we can show that in the playoff game, I’m very sure we can compete with the other teams in Africa.”

CAF confirmed last week Friday that the draw for the play-offs of the World Cup has been postponed from 18 December to 22 January 2022.

As of now, Ghana are one of 10 African teams who will enter the draw for the play-offs.
