Mamelodi Sundowns co-head coach Rulani Mokwena says it doesn’t matter much whether they play away or home in the CAF Champions League because of the high targets they’ve set themselves.
The two teams will be playing in Cairo, as Al Merreikh use the Egyptian city as their home base after CAF ruled their choice of home stadiums were not up to standard.
Sundowns arrived in Cairo on Wednesday and will spend two weeks in Egypt, as they remain in the country to play Pitso Mosimane’s Al Ahly in their next game.
Mokwena says that he does not think playing away means a different ambition for the the team.
“Not necessarily,” Mokwena told the club’s media department.
“I think it being the group stages, and both teams are very experienced in this space, both Sundowns and Al Merreikh are consistent participators in the group stages of the Champions League.
“And, of course, the ambitions and the targets set, in particular for us at Sundowns, does not make too much of a difference whether we are home or away.
“But what’s important is a clear understanding of bringing our best performance and once we can bring our best performance, we know that we are able to deal with a lot of things on the pitch.”
