Tau Reflects On First Title With Ahly

Bafana Bafana forward Percy Tau says the CAF Super Cup triumph represents what he came to the Egyptian giants for.

The South Africa national team talisman divided opinion when he joined the club in the off-season from Premier League outfit Brighton & Hove Albion – with many suggesting he ‘took a step down’ in his career.

Tau responded at his unveiling that he ‘chose history’ which head coach Pitso Mosimane often alluded to when stating Tau could become a legend of African football by helping the club build another colourful chapter in their illustrious history.

And it could be the start of just that as Tau played a crucial role to set up Taher Mohamed for a 90th-minute equaliser and slotted home a penalty in the shootout as they beat Raja Athletic Club in the Super Cup final.

“I am so happy to win my first title with Al Ahly. This is the beginning of my history here at Al Ahly,” Tau said to the club’s official website after the success in Qatar this week.

“I came here to win titles and I am so happy to win the CAF Super Cup trophy tonight. The game was very tough, and we were one goal behind, but we managed to equalize the score and win the title.”

Tau has made seven starts under Mosimane since his high-profile transfer and has scored five goals, while registering one assist in all competitions.
