Zanaco Move For Mulenga Hijacked

Zambian Super League side Zanaco have seen their move for Augustine Mulenga hijacked by domestic rivals NAPSA Stars as they secure him on a short-term deal.

Mulenga, 32, recently recovered from an achilles tendon rupture and was training for the last few months with the seven-time league champions with a short-term deal on the cards.

After showing progress on his return, a deal until the January transfer window was proposed as he looks to get back to full fitness, but their city rivals NAPSA Stars have now tabled an improved contract.

He joins former Orlando Pirates player Perry Mutapa who is coaching at Stars, while another former Buccaneer, Isaac Chansa is also part of the backroom staff.

His representative Nawa Kaka Nyambe, who also has Mutapa within his agency, NextGen Sports, admitted that the deal until the next transfer window suits both parties.

SuperSport United head coach Gavin Hunt showed some interest in Mulenga but after hearing of his return date to fitness, opted to explore other options and eventually secured Namibia international forward Benson Shliongo.

“We’re pleased NAPSA has provided Mulenga with an opportunity to get his career back on track and we’re confident it won’t be long before he gets back to his best form that we saw in South Africa before leaving AmaZulu,” he told iDiski Times.

Nyambe also recently brought Zambia playmaker Rally Bwalya to the DStv Premiership with Usuthu and previously former Super League Player of the Year and ZESCO star Austin Muwowo to Orlando Pirates.
