Appollis – Bafana Ready Despite Key Abscences

Bafana Bafana winger Oswin Appollis says they are ready to do what is needed despite key absences going into the South Sudan game.

Appollis has started to emerge as a key player under Hugo Broos since winning bronze at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, featuring as a left winger.

He won the Man of the Match honour in the 2-2 draw against Uganda at Orlando Stadium last Friday in their 2025 AFCON Qualifying opener for Group K and looks set to be a key figure when they take on South Sudan on Tuesday afternoon.

“The group we have at the moment is a very strong group, everyone is capable of doing well for the national team, there’s a reason why [coach] chose this squad that we have now with us,” Appollis said in the pre-match press conference.

“They’re very strong [players]… the absences, yes there you can say Tau and Ronwen [aren’t here] but the group we have here is capable enough to get us the three points.”

The Polokwane City star, who has been linked with MC Alger, Esperance Sportive de Tunis and Kaizer Chiefs in the current transfer window, was quizzed about the Juba Stadium surface, which they had one training session on before the game.

“Compared to the fields we have in South Africa, it’s different,” he stated when asked about the different conditions in Juba.

“It’s an astroturf you know but it’s all well you know; it’s a nice pitch and we’ll adapt eventually to the pitch.”

South Africa take on the South Sudanese side at 15h00.
