Blom On Chiefs Fans After First Career Goal

St Louis City SC midfielder Njabulo Blom says he knows how loyal Kaizer Chiefs supporters are and would be excited to have seen him score his first professional goal.

Blom, 23, has been one of the standout players in Major League Soccer this season in a record-breaking campaign for the expansion side.

He was signed from Chiefs as a natural six, but head coach Bradley Carnell admits he’s brought much more to the team than expected and is ‘unplayable‘ on his day.

“It feels so great, I would like to give the glory to God, I’ve been praying so hard to get the first goal of my career and also it was a team effort if you saw the goal it was counter press with playing our principals, so credit to the guys,” Blom said on his first-ever goal.

“I think it was just a team goal but I’m so excited about it. [I dreamt my first goal] was something like that.”

Reflecting on the moment that he smashed the ball into the top corner, he admitted it was surreal and didn’t even recall that he had a celebration planned and is aware how happy Amakhosi supporters will be when they see the visuals back home.

“To be honest, I was so surprised, I didn’t know what was happening around me, I saw my teammates were so excited, I was like what’s going on and I then saw the ball at the back of the net, I wanted to [celebrate] in the corner but saw my teammates and changed direction,” he added about what went through his mind.

“But it was a team effort and credit to my teammates, I’m so excited to help the team get maximum points today. I saw on replay how shocked [Niko] Gioacchini, was because I hit the ball over the bar usually in training and across the street, that’s why he was shocked.

“Yeah, I think, knowing [Kaizer Chiefs fans], they are so loyal, I know a few of them follow my games, so I know wherever they are, they are so excited.

“I had a South African dance [planned] with the kit man to celebrate the goal, but I was so shocked when it went in I didn’t know what to do as it was my first goal ever, so I disappointed him because I told him when I score I’ll come to him to do the dance.

“But I was so shocked about it, I couldn’t believe it, so I hope he understands.”

Blom was named in the preliminary Bafana Bafana squad yesterday for the upcoming games next month against eSwatini and Ivory Coast.
