Newly-appointed Zimbabwean interim coach Jairos Tapera has announced his squad for the highly-anticipated Group C 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers clashes against Lesotho and South Africa, but there was no return of Khama Billiat.
The Warriors make the short trip to Mzansi to take on Bafana Bafana at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein on Tuesday, 11 June. The match is scheduled to start at 18h00.
After managing just two points from their last two matches, Zimbabwe currently occupies the fifth spot in Group C, one point behind South Africa who are in second with three points.
Zimbabwe kicked off their qualification campaign with a 0-0 draw away to Rwanda before holding the mighty Super Eagles of Nigeria to a hard-fought 1-1 draw at Huye Stadium.
In the past eight clashes that Zimbabwe has played against Bafana Bafana, they have won just two ties, lost five and drew one match.
The last time these two sides met was back in November 2021 during the World Cup Qualifiers when Bafana got a narrow 1-0 victory courtesy of Teboho Mokena’s first-half strike at FNB Stadium.
However, there was no return out of retirement from Billiat despite widespread reports, while PSL duo Devine Lunga and Douglas Mapfumo made the selection.
