A Needed Win – Makhubedu

Sekhukhune United senior coach McDonald Makhubedu was a happy man after his side recorded their first Dstv Premiership victory in five matches this past weekend.

Babina Noko came from a goal down to defeat SuperSport United 2-1 at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday evening – a result that lifted the Limpopo side to 12th spot on the log, tied on 14 points with Kaizer Chiefs and Stellenbosch in 10th and 11th, respectively.

Makhubedu, who recently replaced Brandon Truter on the sidelines, says his charges showed character on the night and gave their all, and that this is the win they needed to turn things around.

“We are happy. I’m happy for our club, for the supporters, for the players, they did well,” said Makhubedu after the match.

“They gave their all from the first whistle. We started a little bit slow but I’m happy for everyone in the club. We have been working hard but we were not getting the results. We have been playing well, so we just needed one win to turn things around.

“Yes character. It shows that we have boys who are strong mentally and you could see that they wanted it more.

“And the way they [SuperSport] scored, we knew that they would get that chance, set-pieces they are very dangerous on that. We knew that they might get one or second balls. We knew that we would be on the front foot most of the time because SuperSport is a physically strong side but if we try and be patient and keep the ball around and deny them those spaces on wide areas.

“We knew that they’d have a chance on that one but the way they scored I’m very disappointed with the boys because we did that even yesterday. I think Dzvukamanja moved from the left center-back to the right one in front of Cardoso, there was no communication there.

“Then he scored but we had to come back strong. Sithole, Ohizu and Mokwana they were very, very forceful going forward so that was it.”
