Moroka Swallows will miss talisman Tshegofatso Mabasa, due to suspension, and Bongani Sam, due to his loan agreement.
The Dube Birds will battle with their old foes this evening at Orlando Stadium. Swallows recently lost a Soweto derby 1-0 against Kaizer Chiefs two weeks ago.
Mabasa is out after receiving his fourth yellow card of the season against Chiefs two weeks ago, but even if he was not suspended, he wouldn’t have been allowed to play against his mother club due to an agreement between the two clubs, as with Sam.
This is common practice when it comes to loans in football, and we’ve already witnessed it this domestic season between Mamelodi Sundowns and Supersport United when Ricardo Goss and Etiosa Ighodaro couldn’t play the Tshwane derby.
Mabasa is currently second in the league’s top goal-scoring charts with six goals, one behind Cape Town City striker Khanyisa Mayo. Sam has made 11 appearances this season in the white and maroon.
