Magesi FC head coach Clinton Larsen is pleased with how his side has eventually put points on the board after a shaky start to the new term, something that can quieten down comparisons to Cape Town Spurs.
The Urban Warriors gained promotion two seasons ago and took four months to register their first victory in topflight football which saw them suffer automatic relegation having won just six matches and drawn five. Meanwhile, the Limpopo side are in their first ever campaign in the big league following their outright promotion from the Motsepe Foundation championship last term.
Their historic win came at the expense of Golden Arrows last week in a game that was played over two days due to power challenges and they got a point at home against Royal AM. The four points put them in 11th position after four matches.
Larsen told the media in Polokwane after the match with Royal AM that he is happy for his charges who have endured comparisons with Spurs in the opening matches they did not win.
“Especially when people are constantly making references to Cape Town Spurs,” said Larsen when asked by iDiski Times how inspirational the points were for his side.
“It was important for us to put points on the board because with each game that goes by and you don’t get points, you heard Dan Malesela’s interview, the first thing the media do is to start speculating.
“So, for the players I was so happy that their hard work eventually paid off and we got a deserved win. A very, very solid team performance against Golden Arrows and again another solid performance today.
“Yes, I might be unhappy with the result but there has been an improvement in our play in the last two games and that I must be grateful for as a coach. But like I said, there is still a hell of a lot of work ahead of us to get to the level of some of the teams in this league.”
The Dikwena tṧa meetse mentor went on to say the upcoming break is needed for recuperation of his side, for injured players to come back and some foreign internationals to sort out their paperwork.
“One more point towards safety added to the table now,” added Larsen.
“We’ll keep fighting. We are off to the next one now you know we’ve got almost a month to the next league game, so we’ll have time to recuperate.
“Some players with some knocks can get a chance to come back and hopefully [Edmore] Chirambadare will be available. His paperwork should be sorted out, gives us an extra option as well. So, we’ll try and do better in the next game.”
