Mammila Makes Chiefs & Bucs Claim, Reveals No.1 Target

Outspoken Chippa United head coach Morgan Mammila has revealed that his side want to “stick” to their “friends” Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, and also make the Nedbank Cup final this season.

The Chilli Boys are currently sitting in ninth place on the DStvv Premiership log, level on points with seventh-placed Pirates and eighth-placed AmaZulu, while one spot ahead of Chiefs.

With 15 points from 12 matches, Chippa are in the running for a top-eight place this campaign and Mammila told iDiski Times that that’s their main priority.

“To be honest those are our friends, Chiefs, Pirates and Swallows,” he told Lethabo Kganyago in an exclusive interview in edition 131 of the newspaper.

“We are going to stick with our friends right there in those positions and it will be nicer, if we finish in the top 8, which is our goal this season. And we are going to fight for it.”

Mammila went on to explain that they want to collect as many points as possible until the Africa Cup of Nations break in January and February and then target the Nedbank Cup in the second half of the campaign.

“The target now is three points for the next five matches,” he continued.

“I think they will find us ready and we need three/four wins now. So unfortunately they are coming to face us at a wrong time.

“We are going to bulldoze everyone to get the three points. My team is much stronger and better.

“When you look at the fixtures, at the beginning our target was to do well now up until January so that in February we can fully concentrate on the Nedbank.

“We want to do well in Nedbank, knowing that we are safe in the League. We are competing for top 8 but we can also end the season in style, you know.

“The plan is to play in the final in the Nedbank Cup.”
