Matlou Sheds Light On Wearing NBC Final Kit For A Week

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder George Matlou says his entertaining videos that trended on social media wearing the Nedbank Cup final kit was way of expressing himself.

The 26-year-old was part of the squad that ended the decade-long trophy drought as they beat fierce rivals Orlando Pirates in the final and was one of the players who featured in all five wins to the title.

But post the triumph at Moses Mabhida Stadium, he was pictured all week celebrating with his kit and medal around his neck on social media – much to the delight of the Amakhosi faithful who found his content amusing.

“It was a great feeling for me, so I had to express my feelings of course, it’s been one of those achievements I have been looking forward to as a player,” Matlou explained about his social media entertainment after winning the Nedbank Cup.

“Winning the cup with a big brand like Kaizer Chiefs is a major achievement for me and for the club as well, it’s been a while since last winning a cup – there’s been talk about 10 years, blah, blah, blah – but now I’m in the club’s history books, to win something for the club.”

Matlou, who refused to be drawn into talks around his future at the club, with his contract set to expire next month, will be aiming to help Chiefs finish inside the top eight, with Polokwane City at FNB Stadium, their final challenge of the domestic season this weekend.

“The mood has been good since the final, we’re preparing for the Polokwane game, it’s the last game of the league, we definitely have to win it,” he said about the season finale.

“We’re looking forward to this, to go all out even if you have an injury or what, we have to win this game.”
