Newly signed Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Sphamandla Gumede will join Orbit College on a season-long loan move, iDiski Times has been informed.
Gauteng ABC Motsepe League side Dondol Stars announced on Monday that their goalkeeper has officially joined DStv Premiership side Pirates, while the Buccaneers are yet to confirm the transfer.
Gumede had an outstanding season in the ABC Motsepe League, helping Dondol Stars to the league title and provincial play-offs.
The Tshwane side also had a heroic run in the Nedbank Cup, which we saw them beat SuperSport United and AmaZulu to reach the quarter-finals before getting knocked out by Pirates on penalty shootouts.
This publication has learnt that Gumede has signed a three-year contract with two-year option to extend with Pirates.
With four goalkeepers already at the Buccaneers, namely Siyabonga Mpontshane, Sipho Chaine, Richard Ofori and Melusi Buthelezi, the 23-year-old new signing was immediately sent out on a season-long loan to Motsepe Foundation Championship side Orbit College.
The latter recently got promoted to the Motsepe Foundation Championship after winning provincial play-offs, beating Upington City in the final at Harry Gwala Stadium.
