Polokwane City To Receive Cash Injection

The Limpopo Department of Economic Development, Environment and Tourism (LEDET) has promised to back newly-promoted DStv Premiership side financially.

LEDET hosted an intimate congratulatory ceremony for Rise and Shine to celebrate their promotion to the DStv Premiership at Meropa Casino on Tuesday.

The club were promoted automatically to the DStv Premiership after finishing first in the Motsepe Foundation Championship in May this year.

LEDET MEC Rodgers Monama said the department will be working closely with the Limpopo Tourism Agency (LTA) to give the team support in terms of marketing of the club and the province.

Monama said the support is also monetary, however, he did not give the exact figures they will be giving the club.

“Definitely I have instructed them to put some funds available. That’s why I said, firstly they have to develop what we call the sponsorship policy because there is no way in which we can sponsor them without that,” the MEC told the media at the event.

“And they have since completed that process and definitely we are going to support them in monetary terms. For now I think we are still discussing with the accounting authority, which is the board for Limpopo Tourism Agency to say how much we can contribute.

“But I think that’s money enough to assist them more especially the teams that are struggling financially we are ready to assist them.”

The MEC further stated his office is also diversifying in terms of assisting football clubs to include women’s sides.

The province has three clubs in the Hollywoodbets Super League, who are all struggling financially but Monama says he has been made aware of the clubs challenges and they are receiving attention.

“I have said that we must diversify in terms of the clusters that we have and we are starting with the PSL teams,” he added.

“The Limpopo Confederation has approached us about the very same subject matter and it’s receiving consideration to see how best we can assist them for now.”

Meanwhile, City Chief Operations Officer Tincy Tema says it means a lot to the club to see support from the provincial government adding that this will motivate the club to do better when the league starts.
