Former Kaizer Chiefs captain Tefu Mashamaite has summed up the 2024/25 season as a successful one for his former side.
Under the tutelage of head coach Nasreddine Nabi, Amakhosi beat the likes of Stellenbosch, Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates en route to breaking a 10-year trophy drought by clinching the Nedbank Cup title, but missed out on the top eight in the league.
The cup victory also means Amakhosi will compete in the CAF Confederation Cup next season.
Mashamaite told iDiski Times writer Lethabo Kganyago in edition 206 of the newspaper that rebuilding is about small steps and competing in Africa is a good build up to returning to their best.
“Yes, of course,” Mashamaite told iDiski Times when asked if Nabi deserves more time.
“You have experienced not winning, and sometimes you are out of the top eight, like you have to start small. It’s about rebuilding, you know, steady does it. It’s quicker to fall, but to get back up and start climbing, it takes time.
“We have to be realistic and say we can’t just expect Chiefs to win the league. So, the Confed Cup is just like a slow build-up and then you bring in other elements, and before you know it then you are back to your best.”
