AmaZulu will finalise the issue of the coach in the coming weeks and hope to announce a new coach before the start of pre-season, president of the club Sandile Zungu said.
The Durban-businessman revealed that he is talking to coaches both locally and abroad during a media briefing on Monday.
This publication previously revealed that SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt has been courted by Usuthu, but it seems unlikely that he would leave the Tshwane giants after taking them back to the CAF Confederations Cup.
Usuthu have no coach at the moment after caretaker Ayanda Dlamini was let go by mutual agreement, having replaced Romain Folz in April, who is also gone from the club to pursue other job opportunities elsewhere.
Folz was redeployed to be the technical advisor to the club’s president, but he left because he wanted to coach himself again, according to the Usuthu president.
“It is my wish that we finalise the coach before the resumption of the season program [pre-season],” said Zungu.
“Hopefully much sooner than later.”
Meanwhile, Zungu confirmed the signing of three players, but didn’t want to reveal the name of two “signed from the NFD” with the third being Celimpilo Ngema from relegated Marumo Gallants, as reported by this publication January.
“We will have a press briefing to reveal at the beginning of the new season as we often do when we reveal the new stripes for the new season,” said Zungu.
Zungu also confirmed to this publication that on loan goalkeeper Jody February has left the club to go back to Mamelodi Sundowns, as Usuthu did not trigger a clause to sign him permanently.
Instead, Veli Mothwa, who is the skipper of the club, will stay despite him also facing an exit, and they have recalled Joel Amonome from his loan spell with Uthongathi and these goalies will fight with Olwethu Mzimela, who was rated highly by coach Benni McCarthy.
