Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso says the commitment from the group is unquestionable but their CAF Champions League group is still wide open.
Sundowns secured their first win in Group B with a 1-0 victory over Raja Athletic Club on Sunday afternoon at Loftus Versfeld.
Iqraam Rayners’ stunner moved them to five points in Cardoso’s first game in charge and added to the draws against Maniema Union and ASFAR under Manqoba Mngqithi.
“It’s not a matter of giving authority, it’s making us believe more and more, it’s like that in everything that you do, when you have a good [result] in school, everybody believes you are a good student,” he said.
“When you have a good game in the end, the players [feel] better and the players believe the coaches are even better. And when we manage the game with so many tactical approaches, in the end, we make things in the right way, it gives us belief.
“I felt the commitment from the very first day [from this squad], I understood from the first day after obviously I had studied the club that we’re in a big organisation and with a big commitment, I feel that every day.
“This reinforces me in the group, but it’s just a starting point. We have so much to do ahead of us, and I’m completely conscious of that, so I don’t put myself to push you [ when we win a game]. We need stability.
“I spoke about not perfection by consistency as something to achieve, so let’s be consistent in our behaviours, in belief, in pattern of living so we can arrive somewhere, it was an important win, let’s recover, focus on the next one, this group is still very open.”
Sundowns now turn their attention to Stellenbosch at Cape Town Stadium on Wednesday as they return to league action.
