Khanye Hails Pirates Star After 4-Goal Win

Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye has heaped huge praise on Orlando Pirates midfielder Patrick Maswanganyi’s performance in the side’s 4-0 win over Disciples FC in the CAF Champions League 2nd preliminary round tie on Friday evening.

Jose Riveiro’s men came in the match needing to avoid last season’s embarrassing exit after surprisingly being held to a goalless draw in the first leg in Mauritius last week.

The reigning PSL Midfielder of the Season put on an impressive display, even netting a belter from outside the box as the Buccaneers ran rampant to eliminate the Madagascar champions, and Khanye singled out ‘Tito’ and how much the side needs him moving forward, with the tempo dropping after his withdrawal at half-time.

“Credit to Maswanganyi. Let me just compliment the guy, very influential in Pirates attack today,” Khanye said on iDiski TV.

“To be honest that goal was individual brilliance. Yes, they combined for [Relebohile] Mofokeng’s goal but Maswanganyi’s, I think is historic they won’t forget about him.

“He was also very influential in Orlando Pirates’ play starting with how he was supporting everywhere.

“When you check the game all-in-all, especially the second half after Maswanganyi came off, Pirates they were not themselves. You can see that Pirates is going to struggle without Maswanganyi.

“And in this cup, the Champions League, you need at least four or five Maswanganyis. Even for Mofokeng to perform or to have the ball he needs someone like Maswanganyi to feed him the ball,” Khanye added.
