We Had No Excuses To Not Win – Garrido

USM Alger head coach Juan Carlos Garrido says they made sure they have no room for excuses to not win their Group A clash against SuperSport United in the CAF Confederation Cup at the Peter Mokaba stadium.

Saadi Radouani and Brahim Benzaza scored in each half on Sunday afternoon to help Alger maintain top spot in Group A with six points. Garrido says conditions for playing away in Africa are usually challenging however applauded South African officials for making this particular trip seamless. As far as the game is concerned the coach says they came here knowing how tough United were going to be which was why they did better defensively. The defending champions have scored the most goals in the group so far and are the only side yet to concede. Garrido adds that winning away in Africa is always difficult and he is pleased to have this balance in all areas in his squad.

“This is the conclusion when you look at the last two games you can see that the team was very balanced,” said Garrido.

“We are working well in defensive side and working very well in offensive side because we were getting the goals. As I said before very efficient and I mean very focused in the offensive action and when you have a chance to score the goal, get the chance and score the goal.”

“The team was really focused in this kind of actions and starting the game, first corner very good concentration into the corner and scoring the goal. A lot of set-pieces of the opponents in the offensive very difficult, you know the opponent is a very tough opponent in set-pieces. So we knew that we were going to suffer in this of situations and the team was fighting very well in this.”

“We knew how difficult it was to face this game and of course we are very happy with our job, with the way that the players play to the field and the way that everyone was fighting”
