Royal AM’s rising winger Sisanda Mbhele says he is ready to step up after the club gave him a five-year contract this season.
According to iDiski Times sources, Mbhele was promoted towards the end of last season by Shauwn Mkhize’s club, and the young winger is now waiting for his chance.
Mbhele demonstrated how good he is and that he can help the senior club, as they lost 4-3 to Cape Town City at the DStv Diski Challenge festival at Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium on Sunday.
Mbhele twisted and turned his marker with both feet at higher speed before unleashing a thunderbolt with his left foot at the far corner to pull his side back to 4-3.
“No one talks about that one,” said Mbhele when he was asked about the five-year contract handed to him by the club.
“That one is a secret, but this shows [club’s faith and commitment] that they are happy with my performance, and it encourages me to reach the level I want.”
The showing of Mbhele under the club’s DStv Challenge coach Sazi Ngubane is good news to senior club coach John Maduka, who needs some attacking players since his team can’t sign players in this January transfer window due to the worldwide FIFA ban.
Mbhele, as he terrorized City, was watched by his head coach in the stands along with MaMkhize.
“The ban means I can play, and the chance is there, but I will need to work hard,” said Mbhele.
“My stats must improve – scoring and assisting will see me get my recognition and play for the senior club.”
There is already a pathway at Royal AM as Sphiwe Cele was given his start this season by coach Maduka, and the player has rewarded him with two goals this season.
Mbhele wears number 3 on his back, and it is the number that has become synonymous in the PSL as it is worn by Orlando Pirates star attacker Thembinkosi Lorch.
“It’s obvious Thembinkosi Lorch,” said Mbhele when asked why he is wearing the number which is rare from an attacker.
“Of course, my favorite player is Cristiano Ronaldo and Lorch in South Africa.
“I like Lorch’s style of play in those advanced areas but of course, we are two different players, but there are things as a player you pick.
“What I liked from him are his passes and the way he switches ball.”
Another player, who might not take long for coach Maduka to have a look at the senior team is Bandile Dlamini. As they were 2-0 down after seven minutes, Dlamini set up two goals for the brace netted by Thabiso Nzoyisa.
