4 Coaches Linked With Chiefs Job

A battle for the vacant Kaizer Chiefs head coach job looks to ensue with several coaches already being linked to the role after Molefi Ntseki’s exit.

Chiefs have appointed Cavin Johnson as interim coach, and while there is a possibility that he could be given the role permanently, it is believed that the Amakhosi would prefer that he reverts to the Head of Youth role he was appointed to earlier this season.

Almost immediately after Ntseki’s sacking, media began to speculate about his successor, with agents believed to have offered the club the services of coaches from across the world.

Spanish Coach Raul Caneda is amongst the names being linked, as reported in this week’s iDiski Times newspaper, edition 128. The highly-rated coach, who’s enjoyed spells in the Gulf, is said to have been offered to Amakhosi.

But there have also been strong links with Pitso Mosimane, former Amakhosi coach Muhsin Ertugral, as well as Nasreddine Nabi, who the club had been negotiating with prior to Ntseki’s appointment.

Mosimane, currently at Al Wahda in the United Arab Emirates, is believed to potentially be on his way out of the club, and it has been no secret that he is a wanted man at Naturena. However, apart from his current employment, his salary demands could remain an obstacle.

Meanwhile, Ertugral, who has coached Chiefs twice before, has strong links with the club and has good relations with Bobby and Kaizer Motaung Sr. He is currently available, having last worked as Technical Advisor with the Turkish national team.

Nabi, after his pre-season talks with Chiefs fell through, joined FAR Rabat in Morocco, where despite an exit from the CAF Champions League, he is doing a good job. It is unclear if the Tunisian has a buy-out clause in his contract with the Moroccan club.

Of course, until Chiefs make a final decision, there will likely be more names linked to the role, but being offered to the club, and the club having genuine interest, are two very different scenarios.
