Breaking: Vilakazi Leaves Golden Arrows

Co-Coach Vusimuzi Vilakazi has left Golden Arrows with immediate effect, iDiski Times has learnt.

Vilakazi was the co-coach of the club alongside Mabhuti Khenyeza, and they has started very well this season, which makes his departure a huge surprise.

“Yes, I have resigned,” Vilakazi told iDiski Times.

“I need to focus on achieving more badges when it comes to the knowledge of the game.”

Vilakazi and Khenyeza were both appointed on a caretaker basis in April last year in the second half of the 2021/22 season after coach Lehlohonolo Seema was sacked.

That was after Arrows were crushed by Mamelodi Sundowns 6-0 at Loftus Stadium.

After the end of that season, Arrows management was not interested in looking for a coach elsewhere and handed the job to both former players.

Vilakazi and Khenyeza led the club to ninth in the DStv Premiership table in 2022/23, the highest finish by any club in KZN in the premier division last term despite limited budget.

This season, Arrows has started well with both of them in charge, leading them to second in the DStv Premiership with 10 points after five matches, eight points behind leaders Sundowns, who have played a game more.

They won three, lost one which came against Sundowns, and drew the other, but Vilakazi’s resignation comes as a huge surprise. Vilakazi is the first coach to leave a club in the season that has just started.
