Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma has paid his tribute to veteran shotstopper Itumeleng Khune who is linked with an exit from the club as a player at the end of the season.
Khune is a product of the Chiefs development structures, and went on to represent Amakhosi with distinction for 25 years. This past weekend, he came on in the last 15 minutes of their league match against Polokwane City at FNB Stadium as Bvuma’s replacement, in what is believed to have been his last home game in the black and gold.

Speaking to iDiski Times senior writer Velile Mnyandu for our digital-newspaper recently, Bvuma revealed how much the former Bafana-Bafana number one meant to him personally, adding that Khune is an inspiration to a lot of players who want to be professional goalkeepers.
“He taught me a lot, coming from the development,” Bvuma told IDiski Times.
“He told me that I was in your situation before. I trained with the team while playing for the development team. When I didn’t have a contract Itu was there for me. Itu was helping me. Sometimes I didn’t have money to come to training and Itu was there for me.
“So here we’re talking about someone that we looked up to growing up. I believe each and every goalkeeper looked up to Itumeleng Khune because of how he is and the person he is. He played a huge role in a lot of goalkeepers wanting to make it to the pro side and I’m also one of them.
“So I will definitely miss his personality, his will to work hard.”
As rumours continue to swirl that Khune might be roped into the club’s goalkeeping department, this could work well in Bvuma’s favour on what he needs to improve on after conceding 17 goals in all 17 matches he started and featured for full 90 minutes this season.
