Galaxy Terminate Hlongwane’s Contract

Midfielder Lefa Hlongwane has seen his contract with TS Galaxy terminated, Rockets coach Sead Ramovic has confirmed.

Hlongwane joined Galaxy in the second half of the 2021/22 season after he left Maritzburg United, featuring in 14 matches in all competitions and scoring one goal in the second half of that campaign.

In the 2022/23 season, the former Black Leopards midfielder made 22 appearances across all competitions, scoring one goal, but this season he had featured in just three matches, accumulating 81 minutes.

As his numbers of playing dwindled, he decided to terminate his contract and coach Ramovic has wished him well whenever he goes from here.

“Yes, he has left the club,” said Ramovic.

The coach then explained further: “He was not happy about the game-time. Lefa is also a fantastic player and yes, he was not happy and someone that is not happy, of course we cannot force anyone to stay with us if you are not happy.

“As a player he is fantastic – he can help a lot of teams in this league and I wish him all the best to find a place where he can find the joy back and happiness and get a lot of game-time.”

Hlongwane, who has previously played for Royal Eagles, Jomo Cosmos and Marumo Gallants before spending three seasons with Leopards, last formed part of Galaxy’s side when they lost 1-0 to AmaZulu on 30 August at the Moses Mabhida Stadium, though he was only fit to be on the bench.

Galaxy became the first club to reach the Carling Knockout quarter-finals after they beat Mamelodi Sundowns 5-4 on penalty shootouts at Mbombela Stadium after the game had finished 2-2 during the extra time.
