New Mamelodi Sundowns signing Kegan Johannes admitted that the club’s winning culture was one of his motivating factors to jump ship and join the league-title defending champions.
Johannes, 23, joined Masandawana on four-year deal from city rivals SuperSport United on Monday, becoming Sundowns’ fourth signing of the transfer window ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.
Speaking to former club captain and legend Hlompho Kekana on The Pitchside Podcast, the versatile Cape Town-born defender revealed that gathering intel on whether Sundowns had a conducive working environment, was very easy.

“It was easy for me to ask one of the guys [about Sundowns environment],” he told Kekana.
“I just asked them you know, ‘How is the environment?’, they told me what to expect you know. The environment here is winning. That’s the culture I would say of the club. Winning!
“And that for me I think aligns with my morals as well. Coz me I love to win. I’m not someone that’s gonna be okay with losing or…”
When quizzed about what he really wants from the club, he said,” Like I said, I think for me – to make history you know.
“Or to write more history than what the club has already written. And to win as many titles as possible you know.
“To set a standard where we would be the benchmark for other teams for generations to come.
“If they speak about football heritage, they would mention Mamelodi Sundowns. And that is what I want to do,” he added.
Johannes has featured 65 times for Matsatsantsa since joining the club in 2021, playing at both right-back and centre-back.
