iDiski TV analyst Junior Khanye reckons that Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams is going through one his worst slumps and that if he was Hugo Broos, he wouldn’t select him for the upcoming FIFA World Cup.
Khanye’s comments come after Sundowns’ 3-2 defeat to TS Galaxy in their last league match on Tuesday, a result that also dealt a blow to the side’s chances of defending their league title.
The goals leaked against Galaxy made it eight conceded in the last three matches for the Bafana Bafana international who has managed 13 league clean sheets this season.
Khanye expressed his disappointment at Williams saying if it were up to him, the keeper would not be going to America in winter however understands why his name will be on Broos’ roster.
“Goalkeeper Ronwen Williams I think he is enduring one of his worst, worst performances now,” said Khanye on iDiski TV.
“I’d have doubts of taking Ronwen [to the World Cup] if I was the coach, let me out it that way, it would be difficult to take him. But because he is going to the CAF Champions League final and he’s been number one through the build-up, and qualifying for the AFCON and the World Cup, he’ll definitely go.
“But to tell the truth, it was the worst performance from Ronwen. I love Ronwen and he has done well but he has that thing about him that nobody can eliminate him, that I’m always going to start and finish matches.
“And that thing also hurts him. In games like today [Tuesday], they should have rested him a bit and let [Denis] Onyango play. Even the goals he is conceding, very disappointing from Ronwen and his defence is also worse.”
