Milford FC extended their lead at the top of the Motsepe Foundation Championship table to four points, while Cape Town Spurs suffered their fifth defeat in six matches.
On Friday afternoon, the game between Hungry Lions and Casric Stars was suspended just before the 30th minute in the first half due to bad weather. The Lions were leading by 1-0 scored by Muzomuhle Khanyi. There has been no communication yet about when that game will be played.
Later on that day, Durban City came from a goal down to beat JDR Stars by 5-2. Experienced Ruzaigh Gamaldie scored a brace and City moved to third place, five points behind Milford.
Saturday was blessed with goals. In the capital city Highbury recorded their third straight win, beating Pretoria Callies by 3-0. Koketso Sekgodiso scored the opening goal, while Sabelo Nyembe and gospel singer Mzoxolo Rafani scored the other two goals.
It’s a three-match losing run for Lerumo United after suffering a 3-1 loss against Baroka FC. Bakgakga went into the break with a 1-0 lead after Thuso Mogake scored the opening goal. Mothipi netted a brace to make it 3-1.
Meanwhile, it’s getting messy for Cape Town Spurs after they suffered their fifth defeat of the season at the hands of Orbit College. The Urban Warriors collected just point in their last six matches and are now finding themselves closer to relegation than the top.
On Sunday afternoon, Mandla Qhogi’s Milford FC continued with their good run of the season after they narrowly beat Upington City by 1-0 at home. They extended the lead to four points at the top, while City dropped to sixth place and eight points behind Milford.
Lastly, the University Of Pretoria shared the spoils with Venda Football Club. Kgomotso Mosadi opened the scoring in the 57th minute but Leon Sithole equalised in the 69th minute. AmaTuks are now sitting in eighth, while Venda are currently sitting bottom of the table.
