A fight for promotion to the Betway Premiership heated up as Milford FC beat Black Leopards 2-1 while Cape Town City played to a 0-0 stalemate away from home against The Bees in Staurday’s Motsepe Foundation Championship ties.
Casric Stars’ title hopes are seemingly over after a shock 2-1 defeat away from home Leicesterford City which sees them in fifth place, 11 points adrift of leaders Kruger United.
City dropped points for the third consecutive game after a goalless draw against The Bees. The Citizens remain in fourth place and seven points behind league leaders Kruger.
Jan Vreman’s charges had lost 2-1 to Motsepe Foundation Championship leaders Kruger on Wednesday, with the result all but ending their direct promotion hopes.
The Citizens entered that game in second place, five points behind Kruger and could’ve closed their gap on the leaders to just two points with four games remaining.
However, goals by Tulane Ndlela and Morne Peter Nel saw Kruger secure an important victory, with Therlo Moosa scoring for the Citizens.
The result saw Kruger climb to 52 points, eight ahead of City, who are now on 45 and in fourth spot.
Casric’s title hopes are over after failing to collect maximum points against Leicesterford. Stars took the lead in the game, but later conceded twice to lose 2-1.
Milford kept their automatic promotion alive after a narrow win away from home beating struggling Lidoda Duvha. The KwaZulu-Natal-based side remains in second place just five points behind the league leaders Kruger.
