AmaZulu goalkeeper Veli Mothwa has penned a new deal until 2025/26 season, iDiski Times has been informed.
Mothwa’s current contract was set to expire at the end of the season, giving him the eligibility to sign a pre–contract with the club of his choice next month as he will be left with six months in his deal.
He has been linked with the move to Orlando Pirates but if the Soweto giants are still interested in signing him, they will need to release some coins to get him on their side.
The 31-year-old Mothwa joined Usuthu from Chippa United in November 2020 just months after Sandile Zungu had purchased the club from the Sokhela family.
When he arrived then in his first season, he helped Usuthu to their highest ever finish which was the runners-up in the DStv Premiership under coach Benni McCarthy.
He has been an undisputed number at the club ever since then, featured in all 13 league matches this season, keeping four clean sheets in total, which has seen Usuthu lie seventh in the DStv Premiership table with 17 points after 13 matches.
In total, he has featured in 17 matches in all competitions, including all four matches in the MTN8 where the Durban-based side lost to Pirates last month at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.
Usuthu management, led by its club’s president Zungu, could not pick up his phone.
AmaZulu will resume the DStv Premiership against Sekhukhune United, who are led by their former coach Brandon Truter who was appointed recently, at Peter Mokaba Stadium on 31 December (17:30).
