Stellenbosch FC head coach Steve Barker has confirmed Zitha Kwinika will join Kaizer Chiefs after the current season.
Barker was speaking at the Stellenbosch awards gala on Tuesday evening, when Kwinika walked away with the Player’s Player of the Season as well as the club’s Footballer of the Season awards.
The Stellies coach, who was addressing the players, the club’s technical staff and sponsors, confirmed that Kwinika will return to his boyhood club, as reported by iDiski Times recently, after leaving Naturena in 2015.
“I’d like to wish Zitha well. He’s going back to his boyhood club, where he’s developed,” Barker said.
“Zitha will go back to Kaizer Chiefs, he deserves everything of the best. We wish him well, but be aware, we’re coming for you [next season].
Kwinika himself also confirmed he’s leaving during his acceptance speech of the main gong, setting the room alight with a poignant quote, saying: “I came here as grapes and I’m leaving as wine”.
The 28-year-old defender made 56 appearances for Stellenbosch, scoring one goal. He’s also featured 76 times for Chippa United, whom he joined in 2015, and another 34 for the former Bidvest Wits.
