After qualifying for the CAF Champions League semi-finals by beating Raja Casablanca in the last eight, Pitso Mosimane said the tie was won with their first-leg victory in Cairo.
The two teams played to a 1-1 draw in the second leg in Morocco, with Ahly advancing with a 3-2 aggregate victory after their 2-1 win in Cairo last week.
Mosimane and the defending champions remain on track for a potential third successive CAFCL title.
Speaking after the hard-fought tie, Mosimane said his team was superior in the game, but the tie had been won in the first leg.
“We won the match in Cairo, and the team was missing the final touch, especially the ball that we had in the last seconds before the final whistle,” Mosimane was quoted as saying in the post-match press conference.
“Al-Ahly was the best in the match and faced the worst version of Raja during the past years, and the Moroccan team was the worst in front of thousands of Moroccan fans.”
“Al-Ahly came to Morocco to win, not just score a goal or draw, and we faced the team in the African Super in Qatar, and we succeeded in it.”
“We have experience in playing such matches, and we respect Raja and all teams, but we are Al-Ahly.”
Al-Ahly’s will face ES Setif in the semi-finals after the Algerian champions beat Esperance 1-0 at the “Hammadi Al-Aqrabi” stadium on Friday.
