Mamelodi Sundowns striker Peter Shalulile became the first DStv Premiership player since 2012 to reach the historical 20-goal mark in his side’s record win over Golden Arrows.
Masandawana underlined their title ambitions with an inspired first-half display.
They opened the scoring in the 19th minute, when Gaston Sirino pounced on a cross misjudged by Arrows goalkeeper Nkosingiphile Gumede and headed into the five yard box by Mosa Lebusa where Sirino was unmarked.
Peter Shalulile made it 2-0 just four minutes later, heading in a corner from Lyle Lakay to score his 19th goal of the DStv Premiership campaign.
The Namibian striker completed his brace in the 27th minute after being set up by Themba Zwane.
It took his tally to 20 league goals of the 2021/22 campaign, becoming the first player since Siyabonga Nomvethe to reach that mark.
Nomvethe finished the 2011/12 campaign with 20 strikes for Moroka Swallows, with Shalulile overtaking his tally when he completed his hat-trick to take his total to 21 goals.
He’s now just four goals short of Collins Mbesuma’s all-time record of 25 league goals from 2004/05.
Meanwhile, Pavol Safranko scored Downs’ fifth goal in the 74th minute to secure the biggest win in the DStv Premiership this season.
Kermit Erasmus even made is 6-0 in the 85th minutes after a deflected shot fell to him, allowing him to convert into an empty net – making it the highest win of the DStv Premiership this season and Arrows highest-ever defeat.
