Sundowns Star Targets KO Stages Of Club World Cup

Mamelodi Sundowns striker Peter Shalulile says he expects them to progress from Group F at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup as they are not there to make up the numbers in the competition.

Shalulile, 31, has played a pivotal role in Sundowns’ success since his arrival in 2020, as one of the most prolific strikers the club and South African football has ever seen.

His consistency in all competitions, undoubtedly propelled Sundowns into the position where they have qualified for the global event, by virtue of their consistency in the CAF inter-club competitions, as Al Ahly and Wydad Athletic Club and Esperance Sportive are the four clubs who will represent the African continent in the United States of America.

“It’s a wonderful feeling. You’re going to see some of the best players, the best teams, and you can also see how good you are. We are excited and ready for that. Thousands of people are going to be there. I know there will be butterflies (in my stomach), but eventually they will go away,” he told FIFA.com.

The captain of the Namibia national team was bullish when asked about their targets, which related to the narrative being set by the club since their qualification was confirmed.

“The club’s goal is to make sure we make it out of the group stage,” he stated.

“That’s the target. I expect us to do it, because we don’t just go into any competition to make up the numbers, but to be a team where they (the opposition) can also fear us.”
