Mamelodi Sundowns and AmaZulu will represent the PSL in next season’s CAF Champions League after Kaizer Chiefs lost the final – both have now received an important update.
Amakhosi would’ve replaced Usuthu in the upcoming CAF Champions League, had they beaten Al Ahly in Saturday’s final.
AmaZulu would’ve dropped down to the CAF Confederations Cup and likely replaced Orlando Pirates in the competition. However, AmaZulu, Pirates and Marumo Gallants will now form part of the upcoming CAF inter club competitions, along with DStv Premiership champions Sundowns.
CAF announced, via a press release, that the upcoming CAFCL and CAFCC campaigns will start on 10 September, with the draw for the preliminary rounds set to take place on 15 August.
CAF confirmed the following details in a statement:
“The EXCO announced a first calendar for the interclub competitions of the 2021/2022 season:
- The kick-off will be September 10, 2021
- The draw for the preliminary rounds will be made on 15 August 2021 at the latest.
- Bids to host the interclub finals will be opened in November 2021”
In addition, CAF also confirmed to push ahead with the African Super League, while the executive committee around Patrice Motsepe support the idea of the FIFA World Cup Ebing held every two years.
“The Executive Committee instructed the Interclub Competitions Committee to accelerate the feasibility study of the African Supranational League project,” the statement read.
“The Executive Committee gave its support to the project of a men’s and women’s World Cup every two years, which was formulated during the last FIFA Congress. The committee asked that FIFA be informed of this favorable reception.”
