Egypt Announce Strong Squad To Face SA U23s
Egypt have announced a strong squad to face South Africa’s U23 side in two friendlies.
Pharaos coach Shawky Gharib has named his squad for the double header against David Notoane’s side on 10 and 13 June.
The games are in preparation for the Tokyo Olympics which start on 23 July, where SA’s U23 side have been drawn alongside hosts Japan, Mexico and France.
The U23 side were supposed to go into a training camp in Dubai but it has been cancelled, with two friendlies against Egypt lined up instead.
Gharib called up some big names into the Egypt squad, most notably former Stoke City and Huddersfield winger Ramadan Sobhi, Galatasaray forward Mostafa Mohamed and Al Ahly duo Taher Mohamed and Salah Mohsen, although it remains to be seen whether Pitso Mosimane’s side will release the duo amid their heavy fixture schedule.
However, other Europe-based players such as Mohamed Salah, who is rumoured to be part of Egypt’s Olympics squad, were not included.
Below is Egypt’s squad in full:
Goalkeepers: Mohamed Sobhi; Mahmoud Gad; Omar Salah; Mostafa Shobeir.
