Napoli Considering Renaming Stadium After Maradona

Serie A side Napoli are considering renaming the San Paolo Stadium after Diego Maradona.

The Argentinean legend, who passed away on Wednesday, played for the Italian club for seven years and is considered to be the club’s greatest player ever.

He led the club to two Serie A titles and to UEFA Cup glory during his stint from 1984 to 1991.

Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis says that the club will meet to discuss the proposal of a name change, combining the current name with that of the legend.

“We can consider the idea of calling our stadium San Paolo-Diego Armando Maradona,” De Laurentiis told RMC Sport.

The Mayor of Naples, Luigi De Magistris, supported the proposal.
