Pitso’s Al Ahly Close In On Title Rivals

Pitso Mosimane’s Al Ahly have extended their unbeaten run and closed in on title rivals Zamalek.

Al Ahly beat Aswan 3-1 and are now 15 games without a defeat in all competitions.

The defending champions had their first opportunity after 10 minutes when a shot by Hussein El Shahat sailed just past the post.

Kahraba opened the scoring for Mosimane’s men after 22 minutes, scoring with a beautiful volley from inside the box.

Afsha had Al Ahly’s next good chance after 35 minutes, but his shot got deflected past the goal.

Aswan thought they had found the equaliser in the 38 minute but their header ruled offside.

However, Al Ahly carried their slight advantage into the break and continued dominating proceedings in the second half.

Mohamed Sherif doubled Al Ahly’s lead after 65 minutes, when he got onto the end of Ali Maaloul cross.

Aswan scored a late consolation goal after Emmanuel Karbogi pounced on a lose ball inside the Al Ahly box in the 85th minute. The visitors almost scored the equaliser in injury-time but Ali Lofty denied Aswan their second.

Walter Bwalya made it 3-1 Al Ahly following a brilliant counter attack in the final minute of the game.

Al Ahly now sit just three points behind log leaders Zamalek and still have one game in hand over their bitter rivals.
