Pitso – What Chiefs Need To Do To Win CAFCL

Pitso Mosimane has advised Kaizer Chiefs on what the club needs to do in order to finally get their first star and win the CAF Champions League.

The South African is the most successful Africa-born coach in the competition, having won it with Mamelodi Sundowns in 2016 as well as with Al Ahly in 2020 and 2021.

Chiefs came close to lifting their first star in 2020/21 but lost to Mosimane’s Al Ahly in the final.

‘Jingles’ was now asked what he would advise the Glamour Boys in order to finally also add a star to their trophy collection.

“To make a team, it takes long. It took Al Ahly seven to win the Champions League,” he told Thabiso Mosia on SAFM.

“It took Mamelodi Sundowns, I don’t know how many years, maybe 43 or 45 to win the Champions League.

“It took Orlando Pirates I don’t know how many years to win the Champions League.

“So for Kaizer Chiefs to win the Champions League, there needs to be a serious, serious introspection in personal, in how the team should be directed.

“And also, you must have a coach that you want, you must have your coach. I don’t like this thing of people sending their CVs or applying for jobs, you must know who is your coach. Your coach must play the way you want. And sometimes you might lose games or whatever, but that is your coach.

“You can’t go and look for anybody because he just won a cup somewhere. There are so many people who have won cups in South Africa but they are no longer coaching now.

“One of the most respected coaches, who has won three or four PSL titles, who I also respect, he’s not working. So it’s about who you and how you want to play.”

Mosimane and his Al Ahly side are once again in play on Thursday evening when they face Aswan SC in another catch-up game in the Egyptian Premier League.
