Pitso’s Al Ahly Regain Log Lead
Pitso Mosimane’s Al Ahly have climbed back to the top of the Egyptian Premier League after falling into second place earlier on Saturday.
Zamalek had won their earlier game on the day, overtaking Al Ahly on the log but they immediately bounced back to regain their lead after beating Ceramica Cleopatra 4-0.
The African champions were fired up for the game and opened the scoreline after just four minutes when Yasser Ibrahim netted a header from close range following a corner.
Al Ahly thought they had scored another after 15 minutes but the goal was ruled out by VAR.
The visitors were reduced to 10 men after just 22 minutes after Amer Amer was shown a red card for a handball.
Just minutes later, Al Ahly had another goal ruled out by VAR.
Al Ahly then hit the underside of the cross bar in the 33rd minute but the ball bounced on the line and not over.
Ceramica had a dangerous attempt in the 44th minute when a shot from outside the box landed on the top of the goal.
Al Ahly made it 2-0 after 54 minutes when Mohamed Sherif converted a penalty after Hussein El Shahat had been brought down in the box.
The ‘Club of the Century’ made it 3-0 in the 71st minute when a cross by Walter Bwalya was deflected past the Ceramica in their own net.
Afsha scored the best of the night in the 78th minute with a beautiful curler from outside the box in the top corner.
The victory saw Al Ahly go back to the top, with 64 points equal with Zamalek, but ahead due to head-to-head record and just six games to go.
