Why Tau Really Missed Brighton Game
A source close to Percy Tau has revealed the real reason why he wasn’t in the squad for Brighton & Hove Albion’s final pre-season friendly.
The 27-year-old was absent from Brighton’s 2-0 defeat against Getafe on Saturday, a week before their Premier League opener at Burnley.
Coach Graham Potter said after the game that Tau was absent due to “personal reasons”, with FilGoal stating that the coach and the player agreed Tau would not be in the squad to “focus on his ongoing negotiations with Al Ahly”.
It is claimed that Tau has agreed personal terms on a three-year deal with the African champions and will also become one of the club’s highest-paid players.
Tau himself is understood to have put pressure Brighton to conclude the deal with final talks over the transfer fee set to take place on Tuesday.
Pitso Mosimane himself reportedly contacted his former player and persuaded him to join Al Ahly.
The coach has multiple times confirmed his interest in Tau and it seems the South African’s transfer will be concluded in the next 48 hours.
