Akonnor – What We Expected, We Didn’t Get It
After losing 1-0, Ghana coach Charles Akonnor says they believed the could beat Bafana Bafana in Monday’s World Cup qualifier, but things did not go according to plan.
Bongokuhle Hlongwane scored a late winner for Bafana, who had also earlier had a legitimate Percy Tau goal ruled out in the first half.
But Akonnor felt his team controlled the game, and it was only in the second half, after his substitutions, that things went awry.
“Well we started very well in the first half, tactically we were very disciplined,” Akonnor said after the game.
“I mean, it went the way we wanted. We were not clinical upfront, that was the problem.
“But I was satisfied with the way we played, in terms of controlling the game.
“In the second half, we somehow lost midfield, in terms of how we want to continue to play, we were then looking forward because we believed that we could win this match.
“We did one or two subs, which really went the other way around, what we expected we didn’t get it and somehow we kept dropping and dropping and this affected our game.
“And then of course, if it was a chance, I don’t know, they had a chance to score and… but now they’re losers.”
