Stellenbosch Head Coach Steve Barker has targeted a win in Friday’s DStv Premiership game against Golden Arrows.
Barker says that he would like the team to be on 18 points at the halfway mark of the season, and while he knows Arrows have had a good season, he is confident his team can get a result if his team are at the top of their game.
“I think obviously in the context of it being the last game of the first round, we’ve always said that the season to be improving on our performances of last season. And so it becomes a very critical game in terms of us getting to the 18 point mark, as opposed to being on 15,” Barker told the club’s media department.
“So, you know, sometimes certain games become more important than others in terms of where you’re at in the league. And so ja, a highly important fixture for us to ensure that we put in a really big performance at home against a team that has been having a good season, but it’s important that we focus on what we are capable of achieving and capable of doing and I do believe that we’ve shown good signs throughout the season that there has definitely been progress.”
“However, we have at times let ourselves down, unfortunately, in some of the goals that we’ve conceded. So it’s just staying focused and committed and ensuring that you know, Friday we’re really on top of our game in all our departments to ensure we get a positive three point result.”
Friday’s kick off is at 5pm at the DC Stadium.
