As they prepare to take on Mamelodi Sundowns this weekend, Stellenbosch Head Coach Steve Barker says that playing against the ‘best team in the country’ is a good gauge to see where they are at.
The two teams meet in a rescheduled DStv Premiership match at the DC (Danie Craven) Stadium on Saturday.
Sundowns are top of the league, while Stellenbosch have climbed to 9th after two successive victories in the league.
“Ja, obviously, we all know Sundowns, the best team in the country,” Barker said.
“So I always see it as an opportunity to see where we are at, because that’s where we want to be in the future.”
“So it’s a good gauge for us. And you know, given the last Nedbank fixture, I thought we really applied ourselves well against them. And there’s no reason why at our home ground on Saturday, we can’t put in a massive performance that can get us a result.”
“So, you know, we need to approach it with the confidence that we’ve shown in the last two matches, and the commitment we’ve shown, and have the belief that, you know, we can put them under pressure and cause them problems.”
